I was at the 24th Evac from: Apr, 70 - 71

I'm curious is anyone remembers the twin nurses that ended up at the 24th by Feb,71 or so. First arrived approv 5May70. the other was 1st assigned to the 93rd about 6 months later. She was transferred to the 24th when the 93rd stood down in Mar or Apr,71. I don't remember their names. My very poor memory keeps trying to tell me their names were like Linda & Laura. They were in my basic
class at Ft Sam Aug & Sep, 69. One Went to Fitzsimons & the other went some place east of the
Mississippi. I'm also looking for Angie Neiman. She was at the 24th Mar,70 - 71. She was from some small farm community in Nebraska. She ended up at Ft Riley, Ks when she came home through at least Dec,72. That's the last I talked to her. Thanx for the help.

My husband is a Vietnam Vet and thankfully never wounded. I came across your site while searching for information on the 24th during WWII. My father (died 1966)was a medic with the 24th Evac during that time. I am looking for information for my son who until recently served with the 101st Airborne. Information I have gathered on the history of the 24th states that "eventually the 24th Evacuation Hospital would support the 101st Airborne in two different wars." I know that it supported them during WWII, would they have supported the 101st during Vietnam?

Flew Dustoff with 498th in Pleiku, Anson and all around Central Highlands. Commanded the 283rd Medical Detachment in Tuy Hoa and moved the unit to Long Binh to join up with the 159th Medical Detachment when the 45th Dustoff stood down.

To answer Mel Libby: Freddie E. Fields and I are on the same orders promoting the two of us to SP4, dated 6 May 1967, signed by CPT Robert Bloom. Freddie was indeed from Texas and a cowboy too. He wanted to be a Pro Cowboy. He seemed to always have a small rope in his pocket and in the blink of an eye would throw two half hitches on anything standing still. He said he was practicing tying
calves. He also built a wood "calf" outside his hootch and at night would practice his rope throwing. Freddie lamented being drafted because he was loosing points on the rodeo circuit to a youngster named Larry Mahan. Yep, I remember Freddie. He was a helluva guy. I also remember Sue Dunn but haven't seen her since 1971. Would love to hear from her too.

In the History section for March 67 there was a listing for PFC Freddie Fields. Does
anyone remember him and if he was from Texas? Also Lt Susan Dunn--Lost contact with her several months after '93 reunion.

I was given your website addy by 2 individuals (completely unknown to me) after they saw my personal 'Thank You' message in the "Lost & Found" section of the Vietnam Vets site. I was
seriously wounded on November 6th, 1971, in our night LRRP position and was still among the 'living' when we were located & medevacd to the 24th. I was out of it for almost 3 days, waking up to find a concerned & smiling nurse looking down at me. (I was the Army Ranger/LRRP whose face was shattered, my head was completely bandaged except for my left eye, from the waist
down-paralyzed, IV's in both arms & medals pinned to my pillow) The nurse on the night shift & some days ( think she was from
Texas- dark hair/ nice eyes & great smile) would sit & talk with me. I was unable to talk as my mouth was wired shut. You are one Beautiful lady !! Doc Frost was my primary doc, he flew back with me to
Fitzsimons Army Hospital, Denver, CO. To both of you & to the other medical personnel: THANK YOU for saving my life & giving me the will power to live!!! I was on the verge of ending it, not being able to look at my face & feeling sorry for
myself. but I here today because of ALL of you!! Hey, Doc Frost... they did wonders with the plastic surgery!!! I can walk & ride my Harleys & out run some of these kids too!!! If any one out there might know these people..please let me know!!! THANK YOU again!!!

I was in the pharmacy at the 93rd Evac from oct 66 to oct 67 and we use to scrounge
meds back and forth. Thanks for the help and hope we helped you guys some. I got some jungle boots for some chloramphenicol. (jungle boots were hard to come by in 66 lol) WELCOME HOME BROTHERS

I was an infantryman in E 4/12 199th Light Infantry Brigade and was wounded on July 8, 1967. I spent some time at 24th Evac and I thank you for the care provided.

Thank you for your medical attention to wounded men of Co A 3d Bn 39th Infantry 9th Infantry Division during 1967. We had our initial baptism of fire and subsequent battles in early 1967 and many men of the company was taken there. Thank you, to the wonderful nurses, doctors and all men of the 24th Evacuation Hospital in Long Binh, because of you, we now gather for reunions. My battalion is a "Purple Heart" battalion with 80% wounded in action 1967. I was a medic turned clerk and came to the 24th by way of the 93rd Evac. Met some wonderful people at both hospitals. I have attended the 24th reunion on 1993 as well as 93rd in 1994 in San Antonio and again last summer in San Diego.
The reunion in San Diego was small but very nice and we had a lot of fun. Very informal. Looking forward to another soon. Looking also to correspond with anyone who was there at the same time. Anyone know the whereabouts of Sgt Einhorn, Spec Horner (Officers Club Mgr), Ken Wiley, John Ayala, or Spec Roberie (sp)?
Also would like to find LTC Dick Gushwa (chief of Dept of Clinics) 173rd Airbonre Surgeon

I was wounded on St. Patty's Day 1967 - mostly fragment wounds from
a Chi-com grenade booby-trap to the legs. Would like to thank everyone for
their great work and spirit. Especially the nurse who let me
"unload" in the privacy of the "linen closet". Bed pans and
I don't get along and she was threatening the dreaded "roto-rooter!
I was transferred to a hospital in Saigon and returned to
light duty in about 2 weeks. I was with C/4/12 199th when wounded
and was transferred to HHC 4/12 in Thu Duc after being released
from the hospital.

Did anyone know Capt. James W. Bryan? He was a surgeon originally from Missouri who went to med school in NY (Cornell). He was tall and thin, with dark hair and glasses. He would have had a wife and baby daughter at home. Please reply if you think you knew him. Thank you and God bless you all for your service!
