March 1971

Summary to be written

March -Exact Date Unknown

As American troop strength waned, hospitals began to close.  As the neighbor 93rd Evacuation Hospital prepared to close, some patients were transferred to the 24th.

An email from Mic Mahoney:

I know that the 24th became the burn unit from the 93rd Evac (I believe it was the 93rd as they closed and then became a drug detox center) in 1971. The burn ward had wheel chairs with the name of "Crispy Critters". I just can't find the actual date.

An email from Dan Fisher:

At the time, there was a young Amer-Asian boy that had been "doused" with gasoline by some "pure Vietnamese" kids, and set on fire. This child, by some miracle, survived. He went thru many, many surgeries in our burn unit, in an attempt to alter the damage.

As my memory (which is cloudy), reminds me, he had a "special wheelchair" which was his, and and his alone, and I believe his chair was so marked. Later, as he improved, it was changed to "Old Hotshot".
